Lake O' The Pines Closing

Released by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers:

FORT WORTH, Texas – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, announced a temporary emergency closure on parts of Lake O' the Pines due to ongoing fire suppression operations in the area.

The closure is necessary to ensure the safety of the Texas Forest Service aircraft "skimming" the lake surface to refill their water tanks, as well as the safety of the boating public during these operations.

Boaters are asked to stay off the main body of the lake near the dam upstream to the Johnson Creek Park area, a distance of approximately three miles. Boaters may continue to use lake areas upstream of Alley Creek Park, or the coves outside of the main body of the lake.

This restriction will remain in place until the Texas Forest Service notifies the Corps that their aircraft are discontinuing fire suppression efforts in the area. The Corps and the many firefighters at work in the region appreciate your concern for their safety.

Wow.. wonder if they will use Conroe to re-fill tankers to battle the Magnolia fire anytime soon?

I bet it would be amazing to watch one of those tankers refill like that...
