Terry and Dustin are sitting at 67 after day one. Hope they can bring in a big sack tomorrow. Crazy how many different team circuits they have qualifying for the team series. Couldn't have two better guys to represent TX and the Southeast Region there!
Thanks for all the well wishes fishing Kentucky Lake. I will say it was a 2 day grind with water temps around 50 degrees. Our first day was looking very promising with 4 bass in the boat by 9:30 am all on topwater baits. We lost at least 3 key fish on our first spot that would have put us in the top 10 on day one. We continued hitting our key areas but did not manage that last keeper. Our next day we started on the sweeet spot but only had one roll on the topwater with no commitment to eat. We tried several other baits but no takers. We hit all our spots with no results until hitting our sweet spot the last couple of hours. We could not get the topwater bite so began throwing the kitchen sink at them and managed 3 keepers in the last 30 minutes, 2 on slow bouncing a crankbait off the spot and 1 on a shakey head baby brush hog. The amazing thing about this tournament was to see how effective the topwater bite was in cold water temps. We did try the jerk baits and other winter tactics but kept going back to the topwater. I praise God for being able to have such a great experience and make it to the Team Nationals. Also for the quality time I spent with Dustin who was the topwater expert that put 3 of our 4 fish in the boat on our first day.
