The materials that were purchased with the TTBC award monies arrived late last week. We will need help with the construction of the artificial habitat blocks that will go into the lake before the TTBC event in October.
This weekend being the "Labor Day" holiday...and with our scheduled JJ the following Saturday on Livingston...I need to get a feel for when to schedule a first workday to assemble the blocks.
Please post here when would be the best time for you to possibly help out with this project:
1. This upcoming weekend 2. The Sunday after our JJ 3. September 17th
As an fyi...we will need to assemble around 1,500 blocks, which will take more than one workday no doubt.
Sept 17 works better for me too (I think). We are pros Ron and have knocked out 160 with 14 members in 4 hours before, so I know we can do better than that if we issue an "all call" to the Federation Region.

Besides our members and members from other clubs I thought the TPWD was going to supply worker bees? Like Derek said, we knocked out 160 blocks in 4 hours with 14 members. Get 3 times that in helpers and Shazaam...almost 500 blocks in 1 day. I can be available anytime more less but will be limited in some activities with my back. I can run a mean concrete mixer.

September 17th...SJRA nursery site...bring a friend. We'll build as many blocks as we can and discuss a date for another work day while we're there (possibly the following weekend).
Thanks for everyone's input. I will notify SJRA, the TPWD, and the Nacogdoches club.
I was recovering from ankle surgery the last time these blocks were made so I don't know what tools I may need to bring... Let me know and I can bring some stuff.

Just leave your girl panties at home.

What are the hours. We need to put this out to all S. E. Region Clubs. They are wanting to come help to get conservation points. The more helpers means less work for us....hehe.

Thomas it will be at the SJRA nursery site. Take the road off SH 105 next to Shooter's Station and the entrance is at the bend of road to the right. Once you go through the gates go past the two houses and turn left toward the metal buildings. Look for members trucks. Hopefully there will be a bunch of them.

Just spoke with Ron Jones. He will be bringing a load of "green" bamboo for us to use. We will get as many blocks knocked out as we can, and then allow them to "set up" for a week. Anyone who would like to come back the following weekend to help drop the blocks in the lake, is welcome to do so.
Spoke with the editor of the TPWD magazine yesterday. She is sending a photographer out for this weekend and next to get some pics of our construction and dropping parties for their March issue.
Yep and I am laughing my butt off right now. Oh man... that was my first real exposure to the pillars of this club we know as Mark Brenckman and David Williams... oh man... it's a wonder I am still a club member.
Anyone who wants to donate some brush that you may have laying around the house...bring it with you on Saturday, and we will add it to the mix in the spider blocks. We may not have enough bamboo to go around.
