Just wondering if any SCBC members will be entering the Grass Carp T and TBH Grass Carp T?
Was doing a waterfront survey today and while by the water I saw several grass carp up in the shollows. They would have been easy pickens for a bow. If they stay up like they are now there should be some good numbers brought in.
Bad news is that I understand the bow hunters have to stay North of the bridge. The carp I spotted were in the canals of Grand Harbor.

Bena and I plan on entering the carp tournament. Anyone wanting tips on how to catch them let me know. The key is use perch hooks & cat food circles. <:)><
I hope to get to fish this event. Might even bring a friend and his son for this too. Sounds like a fun way to get a 12 yr old hooked on fishing. Anybody got any ideas of what to use for bait besides cat food? What else can you use?

Are we going to get to keep any of the carp for eating. I have never ate carp so I do not know what they are like, but someone in the club (maybe Derek or Jeff) told me they have a great recipe for carp and grinnell cakes (appearently great in breakfast sandwiches). They said you can make great lemon butter baked fillets out of them also.

No, it wasn't Grinnel Cakes... it was Gasper Gou Goulash.
Also, I just checked and it looks like we had over 1,700 hits on the website yesterday and 400+ were to the carp flyer. Hopefully all the attention it is getting now will convert to participation.

Small treble hooks ......and a loaf of white bread. Leave your spool free because when they hit they run like a freight train, let them spool off some yardage before you set the hook. Make the bread ball just big enough to cover the hooks. It also helps if you bait your area with some veg pellets that can be found at any feed store.

I think what Daniel is saying is that he would like about ten to fifteen carp to take home with him.
Recipe for Carp: Add qtr cup of mustard ,Half an orange slice, add salt, pepper, and a hint of garlic. Then marinate over night, grill to perfection on open fire, then throw carp away and eat slice of orange!!
Actually I hear that these grass carp do eat rather well. A friend, who will remain nameless, did not realize that he wasn't supposed to shoot them and brought a few home from a bowfishing trip. Someone had told him they were pretty tasty. I don't know how he cooked them but said they were good. He was not quit as proud of them after I told him he could get a big fine for shooting them.

I was wondering if anyone had a lake front house and a bad grasser problem that they would let a friend and i come down and fish this tournament?we are carp fishermen and have caught numerous grassers around the state. We wouldnt leave any mess or cause any disturbance. We were thinking of coming down friday after work and leaving saturday after the tourney.
Guys I am getting some emails from out-of-town carp anglers wanting to know about any lakefront property owners that would let them fish of the bank during the tournament. If you own lakefront property or know someone that does and would allow these anglers to fish there please post and I will reply to them.

If I had water behind my house I would welcome the carp anglers. Best bet will be to fish where the chumming will be. I am guessing Stow-A-Way area should have some carp chumming going on.

Big red and corn flakes.Pour into a container and stir till it becomes a dough.WORKS GREAT for carp!Any dough type baits work pretty good for catchin carp,it will stay on the hook also.I always use very small treble hooks or circle hooks.
yeah were going to do a baiting campaign when we get down there friday.Theres 4 of us so far that are definite and 3 more that are maybe so far.So thats 12 rods so far and maybe 9 more.yall will probably laugh at our gear when you see it.

I won't laugh... you'd probably laugh at us if you hear how much we pay for Lucky Craft Crainkbaits, Sunline Fluorcarbon, or any of our reels!
Seriously, anything to help get these grass carp out of the lake... we are all for it!
How much you spend on reels?Man people call us dumb because of what we spend.Ive got a rod pod thats $500.Reels that are 200 and rods that are about the same.Ive got just in one bag a few grand worth of crap. And all 3 reels are spooled with 300 yds of powerpro. Its funny!!!

Sorry for the delay on responding re: a volunteer list for the carp tournament. Been running back and forth from the hospital every day this week.
Gonna try to keep it simple for the event.
J. will emcee
1. We can use a couple of folks at Stow A Way (4-8pm) on the Friday night before to help with registration and maybe the set up with the region's trailer. J. says that he can set it up on Saturday...but if we get help for him at 6:30pm on Friday night, then he can rest up on Saturday.
2. We can also use two folks at 5:00am on Saturday to help with registrations.
3. J. will run the scales for the "T", but I would hate for him to have to lift every fish into the basket before he marks the weights...so if anyone wants to get a work out in on that day, you are more than welcome to help out there.
4. If you are good with a calculator, and would like to help with scoring and payouts, we can use one or two helpers there.
5. We will need a "runner" (or two) throughout the day to take the fish from the scales to the fish truck.
6. Although it's not critical...if anyone would like to act as a "dock hand" to assist the contestants at the courtesy docks (when they come to weigh in), you can volunteer for that.
7. And finally...a couple of folks to help with the tear down after the event (4:00pm-Saturday).
First weigh in is scheduled for the 8-9am hour, so if volunteers (other than the 5:00am registration help) can be at Stow A Way by 8:00am on July 9th, we should be good to go.
Everyone else is invited to compete in the tournament, and help to reduce the numbers of carp. So far, we have close to 30 people who have registered early. Believe it or not, the majority of those who have already sent in their registration forms are Lake Conroe residents...kudos to that group who are trying to help. We have also received registrations from Houston, Baycliff, and as far away as Ft. Worth. If we can draw 100 entrants, this show has a chance for success. So talk it up and try to get people excited. Russ has been getting up early the past couple of weekends to promote the tournament on KILT's "Outdoor Program with Cap't Mickey Eastman...and I will relieve him this weekend.
Feel free to post here if you want a slot to help...and thanks.
All weigh ins will be at Stow A Way Marina (ending at the top of each hour).
There will be some space available around Stow A Way Marina...but may not accommodate a large number of lines. Right across the bridge, west of Stow A Way, is a place called Loch Ness Marina, and they may have a little more room. There is also a boat launch called Scott's Ridge (west of the big bridge on FM 1097) that is run by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Plenty of space for a large group of anglers there. Another Corps facility located in the north end of the lake is the Cagle Campgrounds. They have day rates for visitors, and there is plenty of space there as well. Cagle is located about 7 miles west of I 45 off FM 1375, and they have a fishing pier. Cagle also has lots of bank fishing space (around a quarter of a mile in both directions). There is another fishing pier located on the south end of the lake at the county park off state highway 105. This is the biggest pier on the lake, and could probably handle around 10-15 anglers (with 3 rods a piece).
Don't forget to "chum" up your areas before fishing. Will bring 'em in for sure.
